The 38th annual Eden Amateur Fishing Club fishing competition will be held from March 7-14 and is expected to attract a lot of interest from local and visiting fishermen with rich prize money totalling $40,000 on offer.
In preparation for this year’s event the four-lane boat ramp has been water pressured to remove slippery algae with club members Mike Stebbings and Wayne Holding providing the cleaning equipment.
A lucky prize of a Quintrex boat with motor and trailer, valued at $15,990, will be up for grabs.
To be eligible to win, people need to purchase a ticket for $40.
The $40 cost of the ticket also gives people entry into the open section of the fishing competition.
On top of that, prizes of up to $400 cash will be awarded for the largest caught fish of selected species.
This competition is for anyone to enter.
There is also a women's section (entry $20) and a girls and boys section (entry $5) for children up to the age of 16 years.
It was lucky that the club's working bee was on hand when a fisherman from Wodonga who left his car and trailer on the ramp to retrieve his boat watched in horror as his vehicle and trailer slipped backwards about 1.5 metres before coming to a stop.
"It could have ended in a disaster for Rob Grey but having our members on the spot we were able to clear a path for him and assist in the retrieval of his vehicle and boat," EAFC publicity officer Eddy Evans said.
Mr Evans said there had been a few good catches of marlin recently for those fishermen who ventured out.
"I witnessed one come in last week on the cleaning tables weighing in at around 85kg," Mr Evans said.
"Over the past two weeks over 20 marlin have been caught that I’m aware of with most tagged and released," he said.
