The wharves would remain closed on Saturday as forecasts predicted swells of up to four metres.
Surf Lifesaving NSW has issued a warning of the massive swells along the NSW East Coast with a swell period of 12 seconds.
Bega Valley Shire Council’s recently conducted Wharves Risk Assessment recommended that the wharves are to close during dangerous surf conditions.
Access to the café and museum on Tathra wharf will not be affected by the closure.
Surf conditions along the NSW east coast will be hazardous for activities such as crossing coastal bars, rock fishing, swimming and surfing.
Conditions are expected to ease on Saturday night.
