Marie and Phil Hewitt, through their group Pools for Prevention, swim in NSW ocean pools and beaches from Yamba in the farm north of the state to Eden in the south.
Statistically 1000 children are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes each year.
Mr and Mrs Hewitt decided to start the swims because their eldest daughter has the disease.
"I know there are days when Amy (daughter) wishes her life were a bit different," Mrs Hewitt said.
"A lot of people have heard about the disease but they don't understand the other associated problems that occur.
"It's the daily grind that's hard."
Mrs Hewitt is a passionate advocate for a healthy lifestyle, and she said it is how her daughter copes, through keeping her fitness up and eating well.
The older a person is when they are diagnosed with the disease the harder it is, she said.
Incidence of the disease is on the rise.
"Hopefully they'll find a cure soon," Mrs Hewitt said.
There is a Facebook Pools for Prevention page for people who want to get involved.
