A cheeky win over the squad from Goulburn provided the home side its first win of the season. 

Goulburn won the toss and elected to bat first. 

With a wet outfield, the score of 148 was considerable considering the slow-running conditions. 

Organisers said a “gift of sundries” had been given to the side by some unfortunate wide bowling. 

However, Bega’s Jeyden Heyhorn set the tone for the day with a haul of five wickets. 

With the target set the FSC squad set about chasing down the target. 

The openers belted some early runs and victory looked assured, but then disaster struck. 

A middle order collapse saw the score deteriorate from 0/59 to 7/91. 

The tail end steadied the ship, but with just a few wickets left in hand things looked unlikely for the home side. 

Organisers joked that at 9/118 the Goulburn side had started their engines for the trip home, but the FSC batsmen kept the hand brake on.  

Dylan Lawson, who had retired early with an injured foot, returned to the crease for a final stand.  

Together with promising young batsman Zak Keogh, who had held the innings together,  they set about getting the seemingly impossible last 30 runs.

Spectators underwent the entire gamut of emotions according to organisers, as the Goulburn side desperately tried to end the last partnership. 

The two batsmen provided a “never give up” attitude, which saw them stand stoically at the crease for 45 minutes in the hunt for the total.  

Despite the best efforts from Goulburn, the duo hung on and trickled the runs through to best the visitors’ total. 

The best for Goulburn was Jake Patterson’s 23 runs and Kye Beckman on 19. 

Josh Patterson provided the best bowling effort from the visitors’ to claim four wickets off eight overs. 

Lachlan Brennan impressed at the crease for the FSC side with 29 runs. 

Meanwhile, Zak Keogh had 18 not out and Dylan Lawson finished on 12 not out. 

Jeyden was a star with the ball for the FSC team, he took five wickets for just 24 runs off nine overs. 

Jack Allen chipped in well with two wickets for 17 runs.
