Components for the project were delivered to the Port of Eden earlier this year, before being transported by road to the wind farm.
Over two-thirds of the 67 wind turbines are now producing power, supplying energy for Nimmitabel, Bombala and surrounding areas.
Once complete, it will grow to meet energy needs as far south of the Victorian border.
“This marks another milestone for the project, and brings us one step closer to completion of construction and the start of the operations period” CWP Renewables’ construction manager Adrian Oakey said.
“Weather permitting, we are working towards end of construction this year, which would see us nearly two months ahead of schedule.”
As part of the community open day, bus tours of the site, including an opportunity to see inside a wind turbine, will leave from the Boco Rock Wind Farm construction compound every half hour from 10am-2:30pm.
At the compound itself, displays will show various stages of construction of the wind farm and staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
There will be activities for children and refreshments, including a Nimmitabel CWA cake stall and a free BBQ put on by the Nimmitabel Lions Club.
“This is a great opportunity for members of the community to take a look at what has been happening on-site,” Boco Rock Wind Farm operations manager Brett Jones said.
“This is a rare chance to see inside a wind turbine, and we hope people come along ready to learn a thing or two about renewable energy.
“With the free BBQ and kids activities organised, we encourage people to bring their families and make a day of it on the beautiful Monaro.”
Clean Energy Council acting chief executive Kane Thornton agreed that it’s a great opportunity for the community to gain an insight into how wind farms work.
“Local communities are extremely important, and we would love to see locals get to know their wind farm a bit better,” Mr Thornton said.
“Boco Rock is a fantastic wind farm and I would encourage people and their families to take full advantage of the activities on offer at the open day.
