Organisers said they "couldn’t think of a better place than the beautiful and majestic Mallacoota Inlet”.
It will be 10 years to the day since the very first Vic Bream Classic tournament was held and while the boats, tackle, technology and even hair styles have dramatically changed the competition is still the same and going stronger than ever 10 years on.
The huge drawcard for holding the grand final at Mallacoota, besides the beautiful scenery, is the exceptional population of huge southern black and yellow fin bream that call Mallacoota Inlet their home.
The top 50 teams of two anglers who have battled their way through five qualifying rounds right across Victoria, will hit the water for the last time this year to fight for the right to be crowned the 2014 Vic Bream Classic champions.
The best of the best in competition bream angling will butt heads with some of the weariest, hard fighting blue nosed bream found anywhere in Australia.
Mallacoota gives teams an endless number of fishing options from open shallow flats, snags, rock walls and sunken timber along with two different species of bream to help fill their bags.
If you have ever tackled with a kilo-plus black bream, you know how hard it can be to get that big bruiser in the net.
Now just imagine that you’re using 2lb-4lb line the thickness of cotton near oyster encrusted rocks or snags.
With over $20,000 worth of prizes on offer, there is an enormous level of pressure bearing down on anglers to make the catch.
Anglers will be fine tuning drags, spooling reels with fresh line, sharpening hooks and planning intricate strategies with team mates to give them any chance of stopping these Mallacoota freight trains.
Once anglers think they have the bream sorted, they then have to try and out-fish the other 49 teams.
Team weigh-ins will be held at the main Mallacoota boat ramp on November 29-30 from 2pm, with spectators encouraged to head along.
The Mallacoota Angling Club will be running a licensed bar and barbecue so grab a snag and a beer and watch all the action.
Some of the catches will be on display and any eager youngsters can also help the pros return a fish or two after the weigh-in.
