It will be a massive experience for Cook, who is in his second year of an apprenticeship with the club under the guidance of course superintendent Pat Wilson.
After applying in April this year to volunteer his service at the course in preparation for the Australian Open this weekend, Wilson said it was an excellent opportunity.
“I think it is an experience that is priceless ... you just can’t buy something like that,” Wilson said.
Cook has been on the job for five days and will be on call for the next four days of competition.
It will provide him experience of course preparation at the world’s top level.
“Dylan will help prepare for wolrd number one Rory McIlroy and number two Adam Scott along with a lot of other well-known Australian and international players,” Wilson said.
Cook has performed duties across the course including preparing bunkers and hand-mowing greens.
“It is a lot of attention to detail stuff,” Wilson said.
It is the second stroke of happiness for the golf club as a former apprentice has also been making waves.
Brett Knight, who finished his apprenticeship at Pambula-Merimbula in 2004 is doing big things in Melbourne, recently finishing preparations for the Australian Masters.
Knight started at Metropolitan Golf Club in 2006 under Richard Forsyth and then took on the role of second in command to new superintendent Glenn Stuart.
Knight said he was thrilled to help prepare for the Masters.
“This tournament was an incredible experience with a great team and I am very proud to be a part of it,” Knight said.
