The warm weather and ocean temperatures made for perfect conditions, enticing Nippers into the surf.
Numbers are strong this year, and the parents have jumped in to help out.
“The support from parents was fantastic, both on the beach and with water safety” Nippers president Andrew Holt said.
“We will be able to offer a high level of support and activities this season with such enthusiastic helpers.”
For those who have not joined the surf club yet, but are still keen to participate, Holt will be taking registrations this week and will be available at the pool in the evenings for proficiency swims.
His contact phone number is 0414 980572.
The Nippers were capably assisted on Sunday by young lifesavers, who have been converting their Surf Rescue Certificates to Bronze Medallions.
“They are such a skilled and highly motivated group of young people” Holt said.
He, together with Suzie and Dom Hides, Jimmy McGrath and Frank Davey, spent the weekend training the group.
“Many of the group have come up through the ranks in the Nippers and all of them exhibited very strong surf skills.
“These great young people are the future of our local surf lifesaving club and it is an exciting time for us to be nurturing such a strong core group,” he said.
In other surf news, members of the club travelled to Batemans Bay recently to compete in the first of a series of senior local carnivals for the far south coast.
All competed well and have set the standard for a competitive and active coming season.
The next local carnival will be the Far South Coast Junior (Nippers) carnival to be held at Bermagui on December 9.
Bermagui is a very safe beach and the perfect venue for those just venturing into competition.
“Pambula is keen to have a strong presence at carnivals this season and welcomes all to compete,” Holt said.
It is all about taking part, building up skills and having fun,” added Suzie Hides, who is an all round competitor and parent of up and coming surf competitor Turi Hides.
Anyone keen to take part, including first timers, should contact Andrew Holt to make arrangements
To keep up-to-date with carnivals, training activities and general goings on, members are encouraged to check out the club’s new-look website, which is thriving as a result of the efforts of lifesaver, Greg Lear.
The club’s Facebook group is another source for news about club activities and a great platform to share photos and comments.
Simply request to join the group to ‘keep in the loop’. It is also a good forum to ask questions about anything from the starting time of a carnival to what to bring to training.
