It’s sure to be a mammoth task, with the Eden Chamber of Commerce to work through over 200 nominations across six categories and cut each down to a shortlist ahead of the gala dinner presentation night at Jigamy Farm on Saturday, December 6.
Four independent judges, each with a wide experience in the business sector, will then make their decisions based on the nominations, secret shopping and interview material.
The awards are jointly presented by the Magnet and the Eden Chamber of Commerce, and following the huge response, picking the winners is an unenviable task.
“It’s been great this year to see a big increase in the number of nominations in a few of the categories that haven’t been as popular in the past,” Magnet managing editor Amanda Stroud said.
“I’m thrilled that the trades and professional services businesses have received so much recognition.
“The ‘best retail business’ category has always been very popular, but it’s fantastic to see the trades businesses being recognised as well – they’re very important businesses for Eden.
“It’s also lovely to see so many volunteers being nominated – we introduced that category for the last business awards in 2012 and the nominations have really grown this year.
“Across every category, the reason we’re doing this is because we need businesses in Eden to focus on customer service and really encourage their customers to come back again and again – that’s equally as important for regulars as it is for visitors.”
Tickets for the black tie gala dinner are now on sale from the Magnet for $95 per head.
An extra $10 will also get you a seat on a bus running to and from the venue, from Eden.
Mrs Stroud said tickets are already being snapped up, with both businesses and individuals keen to guarantee their place at what promises to be a night to remember.
“Guests will be treated to a generous three-course, buffet-style dinner, with wine, beer and soft drink all provided.
“We’ll have live music from the fabulous Garry Carson Jones band, and everyone will have the chance to meet and hear from some special guests.
“And of course, one of our big drawcards is the Georgie’s Fine Jewellery $1000 diamond giveaway.
“It’s a great opportunity to dress up and have a great night out, and already we’re seeing businesses taking the chance to book tables and combine the night with their staff Christmas parties.”
