The Bundian Way ($50,000) and Lake Curalo shared pathway ($130,000) are among four projects in the Bega Valley to receive a share in the $300,000 of funding allocated on Friday.
The announcement is a further boost to the Bundian Way, which earlier this year received $629,350 in NSW Government funding through the ClubGRANTS scheme.
Bundian Way manager Noel Whittem told the Magnet in June that the money would put the construction team on track to complete the Bundian Way Tourist Trail - a section of the ancient Aboriginal pathway that runs from Fisheries Beach (Bilgalera) to Snug Cove - by the end of 2015.
The other Bega Valley projects to be granted funding on Friday are the squash courts adjacent to the Sapphire Aquatic Centre at Pambula ($100,000) and Tathra Foreshore Reserve Landscaping ($20,000).
Bega Valley Shire Council acting group manager for transport and utilities, Jim Collins, said the projects will receive a significant boost in their development, which will benefit the community and visitors to the area.
“Funding for these projects will result in people having more choice when it comes to seeking local recreational activities,” he said.
“They offer more choice for people wanting to enjoy some fresh air, with improvements and development in the Lake Curalo shared pathway, Tathra Foreshore Reserve and the much-anticipated Bundian Way.
“The Bundian Way is an excellent example of indigenous and environmental groups working together with local authorities to deliver a world-class cultural and outdoor experience.
"We are very pleased to have delivered $50,000 towards the project.
“Local squash players will be treated to new courts, with tenders currently going out to build new facilities adjacent to the Sapphire Aquatic Centre in Pambula.
“New infrastructure for each of the projects will be constructed by or on behalf of Council and future maintenance and renewal costs will be covered by funds allocated through our long-term financial plan or further grant funding should the opportunity arise,” Mr Collins said.
More to come.
