Negotiations to acquire 11 Chandos Street have been kept confidential by council for three months.
The sale was confirmed at Wednesday’s council meeting.
According to council documents, councillors were briefed in June on the opportunity to acquire the property in order to improve access for vehicles entering and exiting the carpark.
"On July 9, 2014, council resolved in closed session to authorise the general manager [Leanne Barnes] to enter negotiations to acquire 11 Chandos Street, in Eden," council papers said.
"Council were successful in their acquisition of the property, with formal exchange of contracts taking place on September 5, 2014."
"The dwelling located on the site purchased will be demolished in order to create an improved and safer access and egress for trucks and larger delivery vehicles from Chandos Street to the carpark," the papers said.
The property was listed for $220,000 on a real estate website with the property being described as an ideal investment property on the edge of the Eden CBD enjoying ocean views and backing onto the public car park, and suggesting that it could be used as a home or office.
