Well what if the holes you were lining up were double the size?
That’s now the case at the Pambula-Merimbula Golf Club, with nine of the club’s greens sporting eight-inch holes instead of the regular four-and-a-quarter-inch size!
Club pro Glenn Warne said Pambula-Merimbula was the first to bring the Big Hole Golf idea to the Far South Coast, where it will be showcased with a family fun day on Monday, October 6.
“We will have big holes on nine of the course’s greens and cheaper club hire on the day,” Warne said.
“The idea is to get some new people involved in golf, or maybe some older ones who haven’t played for a while – get them back on the course.
“Families can bring their kids along, it will be a good fun day, nothing too serious,” he said.
Warne said the idea was given a big thumbs up from members and are likely to be a regular feature of the course between now and Christmas – although they will be replaced with the traditional cups for upcoming tournaments.
“Probably the most frustrating part of golf is putting,” Warne said.
“Anything more than two putts with these holes and there is something definitely wrong,” he added with a laugh.
A family, of any size, can come along and play nine holes of Big Hole Golf for only $15, with hire clubs from $5.
