All members of the community are encouraged to join in, with walkers setting off from the nursing home at 22 Barclay Street, at 1.45pm.
It is a cause that is close to the hearts of those at Bupa, with approximately 75 per cent of Bupa aged care residents across Australia living with dementia.
Bupa Eden general manager, Peta Bentley, said it’s a great opportunity for the community to get together, and walk for those living with dementia.
“At Bupa Eden, we encourage our residents to remain actively engaged with the local community,” she said.
“This year’s Memory Walk is a great way for the community and our residents to come together for a great cause.
“The Memory Walk will be a family fun day, aimed at raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s Australia.
“Sadly, there still is a lot of stigma when it comes to people living with dementia, when actually, people with the disease can lead meaningful and engaging lives.
“By getting to know the person living with dementia as an individual, we can help them live longer, healthier, happier lives.
“Our Memory Walk is a step in the right direction, to end dementia stigma, and promote dementia-friendly communities.”
There are 1700 new cases of dementia each week in Australia – that’s one person every six minutes.
An estimated 321,000 Australians have dementia, and this number is expected to soar to almost 1million by 2050.
