The Eden Whale Festival is celebrating International “Talk Like A Pirate Day”, with a Pirates on Twofold Bay cruise on the Cat Balou on Saturday, September 20, from 5pm-7pm.
The cruise departs from the Eden Wharf for the high sea adventure into the waters of Twofold Bay.
Tickets are $30 a head and can be purchased from the Eden Newsagency.
Finger food is provided and beer, wine and rum available to purchase.
After the cruise, land lubbers can join the pirate ranks at the Eden Fishermen’s Club for a Pirate Party.
There are prizes for the best dressed pirate lass and lassy on the night.
Talk Like a Pirate Day began on June 6, 1995 during a game of racquetball.
While playing, the Pirate Guys (as they are now known), just started giving their encouragement to each other in pirate slang.
They used phrases such as “Arrr!”, “That be a fine cannonade,” followed by “Now watch as I fire a broadside straight into your yardarm!” and other such helpful phrases.
At the end of the game, they realised that lapsing into pirate lingo had made the game more fun and the time pass more quickly.
They decided then and there that what the world really needed was a new national holiday, and so Talk Like A Pirate Day was born.
