MacNamara is part of the Australian team competing in a number of events.
MacNamara picked up a bronze medal in the men’s World Aquathlon Championship on the opening day of competition last week.
First and second place both went to Mexican athletes Alfonso Mondragon and Rogelio Sanchez Castro respectively.
The aquathlon events were held at Hawrelak Park in Edmonton.
Unfortunately, MacNamara didn’t have time to celebrate as he lined up for the World Triathlon Sprint distance championship just 36 hours after the opening event.
The sprint distance includes a 750 metre swim, 20 kilometre bike leg and finishes with a five kilometre run.
The event began just before 10am Edmonton Time on Friday.
From his swimming background in both Pambula and Bega, it was no surprise that MacNamara dominated the opening swim leg.
He led the swim leg then ran to the transition for the bike leg, which he described as “hilly”.
The cycling section ran from Hawrelak Park through the streets of Edmonton.
The local entrant lost some ground in the cycling and running legs, but held his momentum to finish within the top 10.
Despite coming fresh off the aquathlon event, MacNamara ran home in seventh place in the spring distance event.
After his spectacular top 10 finish, MacNamara was able to call home and wished to thank everyone in the Bega Valley and the many businesses which assisted and shared in his journey.
He said there help had got him over the line to prouldy wearing the green and gold to represent Australia at the event this week.
