Formed as a promise to a serviceman who died in action, Legacy today assists over 90,000 widows and 1,900 children and dependents with a disability.
Eden legatees and volunteers will lend their support to the cause this week, selling badges and other merchandise as part of Legacy Week.
“It’s a backstop and a way of making sure that our war widows are not forgotten,” Legacy Far South Coast volunteer Steve Mahoney said.
“It’s vital to make sure that they get the assistance that they deserve, and also that the service their partners provided is recognised and acknowledged.
“In my opinion, Legacy Week is up there with ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day, and it’s certainly something that needs to be highlighted.
To purchase Legacy Week merchandise or to make a donation, see the volunteers at the Eden Fishermen’s Club on Tuesday night, or in front of the Bi-Lo and IGA supermarkets between 8.30am and 4.30pm on Thursday and Friday.
