Year 9 and 10 students were invited to take part in SERAS’ sport science program.
More than 40 students were involved with each of them running a series of fitness tests.
The tests were coordinated by the academy’s athlete performance specialist Courtney Porter.
She had assistance from student interns Scott Reaper, Beth Taylor and Michelle Moore from the University of Canberra.
The tests were set out specifically to determine the athletes’ flexibility, agility, power, strength and aerobic endurance.
The session also served as an introduction to the practical application of fitness testing and factors afecting human performance.
The students will be able to use the experience in their current sports coaching units.
The program is offered to high schools in the SERAS region for free on an annual basis.
