Otton nailed a perfect 10 in his round three heat of the Billabong Pro Tahiti as part of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour. 

The result, combined with an 8.17 on his first wave was enough to see Otton outdo America’s Nat Young to advance. 

In the following round Otton took part in a three-way heat against Hawaii’s John John Florence and America’s Brett Simpson. 

Despite struggling in the larger surf conditions the Teahupoo Beach has had during the competition, Otton scored well enough to advance of Simpson. 

Florence also went ahead, outdoing Otton in the heat. 

Unfortunately for the local surfer, the final round of competition proved to be his downfall. 

He was knocked out of the competition by fellow Aussie Dion Atkinson. 

This is not the first time that Otton has performed well at the Billabong Pro Tahiti either, he scored a perfect 10 during the rounds in October last year. 

A number of Australians, including Atkinson made the quarter finals, but none advanced to later stages. 

The grand final was played out by Brazil’s Gabriel Madina and surfing legend Kelly Slater. 

Despite missing the finals, Otton is on the up and up. 

The results put him four places up the ASP ladder, where he now sits at 22nd in the World Tour standings. 

The next event on the calendar is the famous Hurley Pro at Trestles, California.
