A stunning display of orchids from Far South Coast orchid growers, and growers as far afield as Bairnsdale and Wodonga, amazed visitors to the Sapphire Coast Orchid Show at the weekend.

Bobby and Muriel Bell from Eden took out five championship categories, including grand champion.
Their Cymbidium One Tree Hill ‘Beenak’ made a stunning display with nine racemes of deep yellow, red-lipped flowers and was awarded Champion Cymbidium 60-90mm, Champion Specimen Orchid and Grand Champion of the Show.
The Bells also won Champion Cymbidium 90mm and over with Cym Sturman’s Rose ‘Patricia Margaret’, carrying two arching racemes of beautiful pink flowers.
Rounding out a very successful show, their dainty pink striped Masdevallia Harlequin ‘Dracula’ x Vampire ‘Beenak’ was judged Champion Orchid Any Other Genera.
Bobby and Muriel were winners of the overall point score and received the AOC Trophy.
The ever popular Cymbidiums provided the mainstay of the show, supported by a strong showing of Australian Natives and a variety of exotic orchids such as Masdevallias, Slipper Orchids and Cattleyas.
The quality of the plants on display was of a very high standard, attracting many positive comments from judges and visitors alike.
John and Irene Stubbs from Brogo are no strangers to the championship bench, and this year was no exception.
Their aptly named Rhynchostylis retusa ‘Red’, carrying five pendulous racemes of deep red flowers, attracted much attention and was awarded Champion Vandaceous Orchid and Reserve Champion of the Show.
John and Irene enjoyed more success with their lovely Rhynchostylis gigantea, which was awarded Champion Seedling Other than Cymbidium.
Phil Grech from Bairnsdale was successful with his beautiful dark red Cymbidium Warringah Winter 'National Show', winning Champion Cymbidium Under 60mm.
Phil also won Champion Cymbidium Seedling with Cym.
Kalbeeba King x Ruby Eyes, and was awarded the Phil Grech Cymbidium Seedling Medal.
Jeffrey Lee from Cobargo claimed Champion Laeliinae Alliance and Champion Species Orchid with his beautiful soft pink Cattleya loddegesii ‘Martinique’. Ulli Cliff from Bega was successful with her Paph. sukhakulii, winning Champion Pahiopedilum.
Michael Wood from Kalaru, exhibiting in the Open section for the first time, won Champion Australian Native or Native Hybrid with Dendrobium Saigon x Aussie Victory 'Castle Creek', carrying large pink and white flowers of outstanding shape.
Les and Ann Tudberry from Tura Beach won Champion Novice with their beautifully presented Cymbidium Pastel Jewel, carrying a tall raceme of white flowers with a pink blush.
Champion Floral Art was won by Helen Fraser from Bega for her lovely arrangement featuring Cymbidium orchids.
Champion Fern or Foliage was won by Adrian and Kathy Goodall from Wodonga for their Pyrossia.
