The big day of entertainment and auctions was all in aid of helping Wolumla woman Irene Trezise raise funds for her upcoming trip to Russia for multiple sclerosis treatment.
Wayne said he and Irene were “dumbfounded” with the result, after it appears they raised just under $10,500!
“We knew it was going to be big, but we didn’t realise just how big it would get,” he said.
“People started flooding in from 1.30pm and kept coming in waves throughout the day.
“By 5pm the place was packed and it just kept going.”
As well as organising the fundraiser, Wayne performed on stage three times throughout the event along with several other musicians and singers.
An auction was also a huge hit with the crowd.
“Nothing was left – everything that had a reserve price went, and all for big money,” Wayne said.
“When we tallied up at the end of the day it looks like we raised just under $10,500 – we’re dumbfounded!
“Irene is just amazed – she didn’t believe it would be that big.
“Everybody involved put in 110 per cent and I just can’t thank everyone enough.”
Wayne said they need close to $60,000 to fully cover the cost of Irene’s Russian treatment – after Saturday’s event around $50,000 has already been raised!
Another fundraiser is planned for the Short Point caravan park in Merimbula on September 6 – only a week before Irene flies out for the Moscow clinic of Dr Ivan Fedorenko.
“The pressure’s off for the next one – just pay your entry money, relax and enjoy yourselves.
“And fingers crossed we hit that target.”
