The game began in magnificent sunshine and reminded spectators of their clash five weeks ago after a battle of the forwards with no scores in the first 15 minutes.
After some big runs from backs Pat McMahon and Jermaine Connolly, after the work of the Sharks’ solid forward pack, the talented back line kicked into gear.
Halfback Rhys Burazer put up a towering bomb midway in Narooma’s half.
Centre Jake Clarke rushed forward, took the high ball brilliantly at pace before setting up fullback Dennis Green for the Sharks’ first try, which was converted by Aaron Brierley.
Narooma kicked-off only to see big runs from Sharks forwards, Dean Scott, Tim Weyman and Shane Colebrook.
McMahon made a 40-metre break and the ball shot across the field to second rower Dillon Johnston to barge over in the corner.
The Devils’ Hextel brothers combined to add six points for the visitors, before the Sharks’ Brierley brothers closed out the first half, with Caine flying in for a try and Aaron converting to put the Sharks ahead 16-6 at half-time.
At half-time Sharks coach Neil Williams was pleased with his team’s work rate and the dominance of his forward pack.
The stand out in the first half was Dean Scott with his mistake free forward rampages.
The second started in good fashion for Moruya as Clarke muscled his way over to score out wide.
McMahon followed in the 60th minute with a try under the black dot in which Brierley had no trouble converting.
Off the following kick-off Joel Pietsch caught the ball on the Sharks’ 20-metre line.
He passed to prop Shane Colebrook who slipped a pass out to Scott.
Scott made a bust of nearly 50 metres before he offloaded to captain Tim Weyman who powered home to score under the posts.
Brierley converted and managed to nab a try of his own, and Caine scored his second before the full-time whistle blew.
Williams said the pleasing scoreline was built off a dominant forward pack.
“The boys were good right across the paddock, the game plan was stuck to and mistakes were few,” Williams said.
“Our forwards dominated, setting up the backs who showed some great set moves.
“We are lucky to have the bonus of powerhouse Billy Halligan and speedster Kane Leggett coming off the bench and thanks to Jeff Gamble and Brent Ayton for backing up.”
Moruya 42 (tries: Caine Brierley 2, Aaron Brierley, Jake Clarke, Dennis Green, Dillon Johnston, Pat McMahon and Tim Weyman. Conversions: Brierley 5/8) defeated Narooma 6.
