Winds of up to 40 knots are expected to hit the Eden coast over the next two days as a strong cold front approaches from the west, prompting the Bureau of Meteorology to issue a gale force wind warning.

Northerly winds of 25-30 knots are forecast for Monday, reaching up to 35 knots offshore north of Merimbula in the evening, before becoming northwesterly later in the evening.

West to northwesterly winds are then expected on Tuesday, reaching up to 40 knots in the late afternoon and evening.

Seas may climb as high as four metres, and are predicted to be at the highest offshore south of Green Cape, early on Tuesday evening.

The swell will be at around one metre on Monday and Tuesday, possibly reaching twice that height by late on Wednesday evening.

Temperatures for the remainder of the week will hit a high of just 18°C, with a low of 5°C on Sunday.

The forecast is for party cloudy weather on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, with mostly sunny skies on Thursday and Friday.

Rain is not expected to be an issue until Sunday, with a shower or two predicted to develop.
