Players from 26 teams took to the greens on Monday to kick off the action, with the carnival played in a mixed pairs format, meaning teams are comprised of one male and one female player.
Eden Men’s Bowls president Gil Neilson said the week included an open day on Wednesday, while significant prizes are on offer for placegetters and raffle winners.
“This is the most popular competition we run, and we get a good mix of bowlers from different parts of NSW and Victoria coming here to participate,” Mr Neilson said.
“There are around 26-28 teams competing on most days throughout the week, and all the local clubs are well-represented in that number.
“The prizemoney goes down to fourth place and is awarded on each day of the carnival; it’s quite a substantial amount with $150 for first, $100 for second, $50 for third and $25 for fourth.
“We also run a raffle through the week, giving away meat trays, six-packs and bottles of wine.
“On Friday and over the weekend, we also have a big fish box for the raffle, thanks to one of our great sponsors in Southland Fish Supplies.”
Mr Neilson said player numbers are down on last year, and urged anyone interested to contact the club and get involved.
He said that despite the common misconception, bowls is a sport for people of all ages.
“If you or anyone you know is interested in playing bowls, we would love to have new members at the club,” he said.
