Eden’s Pike wins shield

Eden bowler, Janice Pike, has added her name to the prestigious Bega-Imlay District Faye Sproates Shield.

Janice defeated Tura’s Loris Sinclair to take out the 2012 title after a very close scoring game held in cold and windy conditions at Merimbula on the weekend.

The Faye Sproates Shield is a district competition for women bowlers in their first three years of bowling.

Pike and Sinclair earned their vying position by each defeating district opponents and progressing through the rounds to meet in the final.

The final saw even scoring with neither bowler able to make a break as they matched each other’s point. It was only after the score board showed 24 each that Pike managed to take the lead and break away to first reach the target of 31.

“Janice and Loris are aspiring and competitive new bowlers both of whom performed very well throughout the Faye Sproates Competition,” said district publicity officer Pat McRae.

“In the decisive encounter against each other, both continued with focus and determination until the final bowl was played.”
