Eden Public School was a sea of purple on Wednesday, as staff and students raised awareness for epilepsy and came out in support of K-2GB student Jaidyn Fox.

Jaidyn was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of three, and when his mother Kristin Vermazen came across the concept of Purple Day on Facebook, she saw it as a great opportunity.
“I thought it would be good for Jaidyn to learn not to be ashamed of it or to be embarrassed, and want to talk about it,” Kristin said.
“I spoke to (teacher) Emma Bolton, and she was really happy to do it.”
Teachers took the opportunity to educate students on how to help if one of their classmates has a seizure; something Kristin said is an important lesson.
“They’ve really done a lot to help him ever since kindergarten,” she said.
“They talk about it, ask me what he needs, and if they’re unsure about anything they ring me, so they’re very helpful.”
