Pedestrian hit by caravan wakes from coma

Kiah man John Hallinan has woken from an induced coma, but remains in the intensive care unit at Canberra Hospital after being hit by a caravan in Eden last week.

Police said the 63-year-old was attempting to cross the road at the Princes Highway intersection of Mitchell and Imlay Streets last Monday at around 1.30pm, when he was struck by a Ford Ranger towing a caravan.

Ky Hallinan said his father, affectionately known as “Johnny Rotten”, came out of the coma on Saturday.

“He’s awake now, but he’s still sedated,” Ky said on Monday.

“He’s still in the ICU, so they’re not sure yet when he’ll be able to go home or anything like that.

“I flew over to see him, but I’m back home (in Western Australia) now.”
