Blake, 21, is a recent graduate of the University of Wollongong, and has relocated to Eden from south-western Sydney.
He takes over from Eden local Sarah Chenhall, who has left the Magnet after seven years to take up a role with Sapphire Coast Tourism.
After growing up in the big smoke, Blake says he is thrilled with the change of scenery and can’t wait to get started.
“I’m living only a few minutes away from the main street, so I’m nice and close to everything which is a big bonus,” Blake said.
“Coming from Sydney is a bit of an adjustment, but everyone has been great with helping me settle in and I’m really looking forward to getting involved in the local community.
“It’s a picturesque town in a number of ways; you definitely don’t get this kind of scenery in the city.”
Blake is a keen sports follower, playing basketball and cricket from a young age.
He says he is looking forward to putting his name down for the local competitions.
“I haven’t played competitively for a few years now, but I’ll definitely be in touch to see if I can get myself a spot in a couple of the local teams,” Blake said.
“Sport is probably what drew me towards becoming a journalist; I always wanted to know all the behind the scenes news.
“Uni has really taught me that everyone has their own story to tell though, so I love writing all kinds of stories and hopefully I’ll be able to tell some great stories about the people who keep this community going.
“It will be great getting to know everyone from around the community.
“I’ve obviously got big shoes to fill, as Sarah is such a well-known local figure who has been here for a long time and knows the job back to front, but I’m definitely up for the challenge.”
Next time you call in to the Eden office be sure to say “Hi” to Blake!
