A small southern right whale was the first to venture inside the heads of Twofold Bay for the 2012 season yesterday (Wednesday).
It was greeted by the twin blue hulls and happy faces of the Cat Balou Cruises who were enjoying a bay tour.
Owners Ros and Gordon Butt reported the sighting to the Eden Killer Whale Museum who quickly activated the siren to let townspeople know the whales are back.
The sighting follows an encounter with four northbound humpbacks at the weekend (pictured at left) while reports from the North say Migaloo the white humpback was spotted off Coffs Harbour last week.
