A long held dream of the Eden Visitor Information Centre (EVIC) will soon be realised after the volunteer organisation received a $4000 grant from the IMB Building Society’s Community Foundation program this week.
EVIC manager Ed Chenery said the grant will be used to collate information on Eden’s historic buildings, monuments and other places of heritage significance, for the design of a new brochure and map-guided ‘Heritage Walk Through Eden’ project.
On Wednesday he showed IMB branch manager Sue Whelan an example of the brochure, which he hopes will be available in time for the Whale Festival in November.
Ed said around 30 local sites will feature in the brochure with a second driving tour for places further out of town.
“It will include old hotels, the police office, the log cabin, the heritage walk, where Bass and Flinders first came ashore, it’ll be a nice walk around town.”
“Make sure you bring some in for us,” Sue said.
“I can’t wait to do the walk!”
Applications for the 2013 round of funding will open in November 2012.
