In a close 5/4 ballot Bill Taylor has been returned as mayor of the Bega Valley Shire Council.
The ballot, held in the last hour, saw only two candidates prepared to stand for the mayoral position.
Russell Fitzpatrick challenged Bill Taylor and managed to gain support from Councillors Allen, Seckold and Tapscott but Bill Taylor won the numbers and the day with support from Councillors McBain, Hughes, Britten and Mawhinney.
Nominating for deputy mayor were Councillors Michael Britten and Tony Allen.
Following the mayoral result Tony Allen withdrew and Russell Fitzpatrick was nominated.
Mr Fitzpatrick won the vote for deputy mayor 5 to 4.
