Eden bed and breakfast among the nation’s best

Eden couple Peter and Terry-Ann Tregear can lay claim to having one of the best bed and breakfast establishments in Australia after their home was included on a top 25 list last week.

Based on rave reviews from their guests, Whale Cove Bed and Breakfast in Whale Cove Circuit in the hills behind Cocora Beach, was ranked number 20 of 25 in the Travellers Choice B&Bs and Inns awards run by popular travel website Trip Advisor.

It means Tregear’s two suite B&B has earned a prominent position on the website, which has 60 million unique visitors each month, and is highly visible when people are looking for the best of the best.

Peter and Terry-Ann are delighted as most of their bookings are generated through web enquiries.

“Over the three years since we opened our bookings are definitely increasing through the power of the web, and also the Visitor Information Centre here in Eden, which is run very well,” Peter said.

“I think this award gives us a bit more recognition firstly locally, and I think Eden needs a bit of picking up, but also nationally and internationally.”

Whale Cove is also children friendly and open for one night stays.

“We had 23 days where we are all booked out for one night a piece and it’s a lot of work,” Terry-Ann said.

Guest reviews, mainly from couples, applaud the Tregears for their warm hospitality which includes fresh scones for afternoon tea, port and chocolates in each suite and long gourmet breakfasts featuring lots of local foods.

“Terry-Ann and Peter were the nicest people we met in Australia and that says a lot, cause Aussies are very friendly people!” one reviewer wrote.

During a visit to the immaculate residence this week it becameclear the couple love what they do.

Peter described their approach as “relaxed, but dedicated and professional”.

“All in all it’s the Peter and Terry-Ann team,” Peter said.

“We are people people, which is very important, and love to let people into our house to be part of our home.”

Children are most welcome too, somewhat of a rarity in the B&B market, and treated with sometimes foods and cartoons in the mornings while mum and dad sleep in.

Some even cry when they leave.

Last week the Tregears helped a couple whose car had broken down on day two of their three week driving holiday.

“Oh the poor darlings, we felt so sorry for them,” Terry-Ann said.

“We raced around and got their car down to Marty (Davidson), and got the man on a bus to Canberra to pick up another car and they were on their way within 24 hours.”

Cleanliness and quality is a priority.

The rooms were just fitted out with new linen which include 1200 thread count Damask sheets.

“Cleanliness is the first thing a female will notice and we take great care in our presentation,” Peter laughed.

Of the 54 reviews, 51 rated Whale Cove ‘excellent’, 29 were written by couples and 16 by families.

A review posted on January 23 reads:

“Terry-Ann and Peter clearly love hosting people in their home, and they do a wonderful job.”
