Fire burns north from Millingandi

An out of control bush and grass fire is travelling north with strong southerly winds after breaking out at Millingandi, five kilometres west of Merimbula, just after noon today.

Drivers are advised to proceed with caution.

Forest Lane, Millingandi Road, Red Gum Road and Yellow Pinch Dam Road were advised to leave and head north to Bega on the Princes Highway which remained open at the time of publication.

People to the south of the fire are advised to head to Merimbula.

The fire has spotted across the highway into Bournda Nature Reserve.

Two aircraft and crews are working to protect property.

Temperatures in the area reached 47 degrees Celsius ahead of southerly change that is expected to reach 90 kilometres.
