Celebrate with summer cricket

A blend of backyard cricketers, competition players, women and children will make for a riveting day of informal cricket to mark Australia Day on Sunday, January 27.

For the past two years the Australia Day cricket match has a key part of Eden’s celebrations and this year the battle for the Owen Allen Trophy will continue.

Teams of eight play short games where women’s runs are doubled, juniors are heartily encouraged, all players must bowl one over and retire on 25.

The sportsground is conveniently located near the patrolled section of Aslings Beach, Eden Skate Park and amenities.

Organiser Drew Mudaliar said last year’s winners, Spink Tiling, are talking up defence of the title.

“It’s all about having fun, a lot of people enjoy the game but don’t want to play every week, the Australia Day competition draws a few closet cricketers out,” he said.

Charity is also a winner with the victor’s choosing their recipient for a $500 donation.

To watch the fun, head to Eden Sportsground in Barclay Street from 10am the day after Australia Day or to participate contact Drew on 0429 906 362 or Mark on 0428 961 244.
