The Far South Coast Under 10 soccer team excelled at Eurobodalla’s 14th annual under 10s tournament last weekend, returning home runners-up after two days of competition.
The team was coached by Eden’s Mick Sawers and boasted the talents of Eden Killer Whales Josh Brown, Oliver Bradley, Sam Williams and Corey Hardy who each had a team of supporters of their own.
The team finished the first day of competition in third place after defeating Monaro (3 to 0) and a one point loss to Tuggeranong.
The boys enjoyed a well deserved swim before a good night’s sleep their coach tossed and turned and worked out game play for most of the night.
As day two dawned on the knockout rounds, Sawers
was ready.
A grand final berth was secured against ACT team Belnorth following two victories, defeating Gungahlin (1 to 0) and Queanbeyan (2 to 0).
Josh Brown scored the only grand final goal for the FSC team and goalie Lachlan Sims of Bega was credited for saving many a goal.
At full time, the score was one all and hearts raced as the game went into golden time.
The battle continued but with three minutes to go, a Belnorth boot put the ball onto the back of the net leaving little time for a reply from the Far South Coast.
The coach congratulates the boys on their fantastic plays and great sportsmanship in all their games, they should be very proud of their achievement.
