Sampling and analysis of effluent and beach waters from the southern end of Aslings Beach and Ross’s Bay, Eden, continue to indicate normal conditions, according to Bega Valley Shire Council’s manager of environmental health, Jeff Tipping.
However, he is still recommending against swimming, surfing, fishing or collecting shell fish in the vicinity as partially treated effluent discharge is still occurring.
Manager of water and sewerage services, Jim Collins said the Eden sewage treatment plant is producing effluent of an acceptable quality.
“The tank that lost biomass is now producing effluent again, along with the second healthy tank,” he said.
“However, the storage ponds still contain a quantity of poorer quality effluent that will be discharged at the ocean outfall over the next few days.
“We expect that plant operation will return to normal early next week. Until then, our precautionary warning signage will stay in place.
“Meanwhile, investigation into the cause of the problem at the plant
are continuing,” Mr
Collins said.
The investigations began when a “large volume” of improperly treated effluent was released into Twofold Bay on October 28.
