Mary Cocks and her daughter Mary-Anne (Pambula) returned home to Eden this week from what many passengers described as a disappointing trip aboard the Pacific Dawn.
The luxury cruise ship made headlines around the country as it docked in Sydney on Monday carrying three swine flu-infected crew.
But veteran cruise-ship passenger Mary wondered what all the fuss was about.
“Lloyd (Mary’s husband) and I have been on lots of cruises and I still thoroughly enjoyed myself,” Mrs Cocks said.
“The Captain kept us well informed about what was happening.
“We were all medically tested and our temperature’s taken.
“Every precaution that was humanly possible was taken,” Mrs Cocks said.
“I received a voucher for a refund of 75 per cent of my money back for this cruise and 25 per cent off the next cruise.
“I’ve put my name down for a cruise on the Queen Elizabeth* in 2011 and I hope I’m not too old.
“I would go again tomorrow and I might take Lloyd,” Mary said.
Lloyd Cocks remained at home this trip-around to look after their dog, Lucky and the cat.
Mary Cocks celebrated her 84th birthday on May 25.
And how does Mary feel now that she’s at home?
Lloyd Cocks was quick to answer that question “She’s never felt better and that’s a fact.”
* The Queen Elizabeth is a new modified Vista class cruise ship by the Cunard Line. The ship is being built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri at its Monfalcone shipyard, with delivery expected in September 2010. Queen Elizabeth will be a sister ship to MS Queen Victoria, though slightly larger, at 92,000 gross tons, this will be due to a more vertical stern. She is capable of carrying up to 2,092 passengers,
