Hopes fading but search to continue at Haycock Point

07 Feb, 2012 03:20 PM
Hopes are fading for a Canberra man feared drowned after disappearing from Haycock Point on Monday afternoon.

The second day of the search yielded no clue as to the 56-year-old man’s disappearance despite a comprehensive land, sea and air search in ideal conditions by local authorities.

A sea based search will resume on Wednesday morning.

Eden Water Police acting sergeant Steven Judd said divers were on standby to search the ocean floor on Thursday.

“We’re still just searching for a person in the water but hopes are fading, it’s unlikely we are going to find him alive,” he said.

The man had been fishing alone on Monday and was last seen at 2.30pm.

His family has since travelled to the area to assist with the search and visit the site.
